Come and Try out the Trio

ERIN’s only public performance at present is when ERIN TRIO gigs on the last Sunday of each Month* at the Hunter Valley Brewery, Maitland. Show starts at 6pm.

*(End of May will actually be June 1st - now that’s Irish!)

Performing the same repertoire of traditional jigs, reels and songs of the popular 5-piece ERIN, ERIN TRIO aims to paint a more subtle picture. With the acoustic approach of guitar, fiddle and voice, the trio strips it all back to reveal the raw simplicity of Irish storytelling. Add the stirring rumble of bodhran and be taken away to the rocky road to Dublin, or the rolling mountains of Mourne…

A fine bistro menu is available and booking are recommended. Children are also welcome (restricted areas). Ph. (02) 4933 5786

Folk Club Magic

Those of you lucky enough to attend the concert on Saturday, April 5 for the Newcastle & Hunter Valley Folk Club, would I’m sure be smiling at the memory.

An intriguing mix of sounds - including the opening energies of local female acapella ensemble, AMORÉ GRANDÉ - was served to the audience, who filled the Wesley Fellowship Hall in Hamilton to capacity.

ERIN’s lead vocalist, Bernadette Lannen, relished the opportunity to work alongside astounding local artists, Kent Daniel and Larry Hughes.  Apart from captivating jigs and reels on Bouzouki, Mandolin, Fiddle, Guitar and Bodhran, the repertoire included pieces by John Lennon and Dido Armstrong amidst the powerful original songs of Kent and Larry.

The penetrating drones of didgeridoo from Steve Lombardi also contributed to an unforgettable arrangement of the traditional song “She Moved Through The Fair”.

Kent and Larry will perform together at the St Alban’s Folk Festival on the Anzac Day Long Weekend.  ERIN hope to gig with the Folk Club later this year.

Newcastle Album Launch Pending…

The ERIN TRIO are excited to have completed recording the long-awaited second album for the Irish band, released officially at Maitland’s Hunter Valley Brewery in February this year.

The TRIO is keen however for a Newcastle launch of “Let’s Toss This Salad” and invites you to watch this space for details of the same.

In the meantime, you can catch the trio’s popular Sunday afternoon gigs on the last Sunday of the month* at the HVB, Maitland.

*except for May, when we’ll actually play on JUNE 1st instead!

Come and Try out the Trio - March 30

Fresh off the bat of her inspirational Festivals Tour (see below) ERIN TRIO will perform this Sunday, March 30 at the Hunter Valley Brewery, Maitland. The show starts at 6pm.

The trio will be performing songs from their new album “Let’s Toss This Salad” which was launched at the HVB in February.

Performing the same repertoire of traditional jigs, reels and songs as the popular 5-piece, ERIN TRIO aims to paint a more subtle picture. Bernadette’s Guest Spot at the Folk Club - April 5

ERIN’s lead vocalist, Bernadette Lannen, has been invited to work with two of the Hunter’s finest folk musicians for an exciting and eclectic performance on Saturday, April 5, 7.30pm at the Wesley Fellowship Hall (opposite the Exchange Hotel on Beaumont St, Hamilton).

Talented multi-instrumentalists, singers and songwriters, KENT DANIEL (Guitar, Bouzouki, Mandolin & Voice) and LARRY HUGHES (Guitar, Mandolin, Banjo, Fiddle & Voice) team up again for the Newcastle and Hunter Valley Folk Club, following an acclaimed performance last year.  With musical loves spanning Planxty, Altan, The Kingston Trio and The Bothy Band as well as Dylan, Dido and Joni Mitchell to name but a few, these local lads have dedicated their lives to their passion for “music that has something to say”.

Having recently secured a spot at this year’s St Alban’s Folk Festival, Kent and Larry are sure to treat their audience to a stunning mix of traditional and original offerings - plus a few surprises to boot!

Bernadette (Vocals and Bodhran) is excited and inspired to be thrown into the mix and will offer listeners new renditions of timeless folk tunes as well as some more contemporary repertoire.  You might also recognise fresh and creative re-workings of some of your ERIN favourites…

The KLB trio - :)  - they need a name!! - will be supported on the night by the all-female acappella ensemble AMORÉ GRANDÉ.

Tickets are $14 Adults, $12 Concession and $10 Club Members.  For further information contact Elaine on (02) 4943 1552 or Bilbo 0410 584 533 or (02) 4958 4033.  Please visit the Folk Club’s website http://www.newcastlehuntervalleyfolkclub.org.au/

A Capital St Patrick’s Day Was Had By All! - March 17

ERIN wound up their March tour in Canberra with a special St Patrick’s Day performance at King O’Malley’s Irish Pub. It was a blast! With green hair, green hats, girls Irish-dancing and Guinness flowing, the recipe was complete - and ERIN the icing on the cake, of course! Watch this space, Canberra - we’ll be back…

Yackandandah - Couldn’t be Grandah!

Sorry - couldn’t resist the bad rhyme…

ERIN had a wonderful time at the stunning country town of Yackandandah and its superbly cosy Folk Festival. Not only were we able to play some priceless intimate gigs to another warm and appreciative audience but we also enjoyed the opportunity to catch some of the fine acts travelling the circuit between Port Fairy and the National Folk Festival held in Canberra over the Easter weekend. If that wasn’t spectacular enough, our digs certainly were at the picturesque home of Mike and Trish (not to mention the stunning food and wardrobe - thanks a million!). Who needs pictures on the walls (or curtains on the windows) with views like this?! (See photos soon to be posted). Some favourite artists included Faerd, The Go Set, Rachel Unthank & The Winterset, Cecile Corbel and of course, The Undesirables from Canada who enjoyed a mountain-top pool party in the hefty Aussie heat!

Thanks also to the Erin fans who travelled so far to show their support and the family and friends who flanked around to cheer us on. Special mention must also go to the fine poetry recitation and of course, to young Jesse for kicking off some creative dancing at the Star Hotel - Riverdance will never be the same…

A Well-Earned Rest…with a Reel Thrown in…

ERIN took up the opportunity to rest and recoup…with a little more partying for good measure…at Jim’s blissful Enfield bush retreat, some 20 minutes from the heart of Ballarat.

The March Flies may have been on the attack but that didn’t hamper ERIN’s drive to relax, bushwalk, drink, sleep, eat, read, drink, sleep, drink, chat, sleep and play music, after a full-on few days in Port Fairy (comprised of much the same… minus the bushwalking and sleeping). Thanks to Jim, Pat and Arleen, plus Beccy, Tom & Lachie for some priceless moments and golden memories. (Please note the proud parading of our Port Fairy purchases… :) )
